I’ve read so many things about lifespans. I have two red comets who are about almost 4 yrs and a red sex link who is 10 mos. My red girls haven’t laid in three-four months and it was sparingly when they did. They always stop laying each winter for months at a time. (Diet has lots of protein!) I don’t care if they ever lay again. They’re my pets and I love them and they can live out their non-stressful life being happy in my backyard. I know lifespans can vary widely, but what’s a good general rule?

High production breeds do not tend to live that long.
It is sad but reproductive issues are common in high production breeds.

Some do live long lives even though the breed in general does not. There are those individuals that buck the odds.

I have a nine year old and a ten year old. Both are bantam cochin so maybe that made a difference.
