We just got our baby chicks from Cackle today. Yay! But I am a first timer and we ordered hatchery choice variety pack bantams, so I have no idea what breeds they are. I am dying to know, so I would love your help guessing. [IMG]

I took pictures of the groupings that looked similar:

    #1 - she's kind of greyish - silkie?

#2 - they are a bit orangy on their backs with stubby wings
    [IMG]

    #3 - very pale yellow
    [IMG]

    #4 - speckled - Seabright?

#5 - black with white dot on head
    [IMG]

#6 - no idea if these are even the same breed
    [IMG]
(here's a better picture of the one on the left)

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Hi!

Well, your first pic baby doesn't have feathered legs, so it isn't a silkie.

I don't know much about bantams, but my guess on #5 is bantam Barred Rock. Pic #6 - the two on the right look like Australorps - don't know if they come in bantam size. The others - ???

Hopefully others with more chickie knowledge will chime in!

    Good luck! They are adorable!

Quote:YOU GO GIRL! There's your answer! The only two I guessed right wer #3 and #4.

This message board has a great breed section (on home page) that shows pictures of all the breeds as chicks, adolescents, and adults. It's a cool source if you're new to chickens like me!

They are absolutely GORGEOUS! I ordered 25 from cackle (10 japanese black tailed white bantams and 15 golden laced sebright bantams) They sent 17 japanese & 16 sebrights. GOOD THING! 3 of my japanese have already died (on day 2 and day 3). SO, I have a bunch of chickies myself. Enjoy them! And post more pictures as they get older.
