poison ivy, home remedies maybe?

Wash with alcohol and cut an onion. Rub the cut onion over it, let it sit for a minute. Then rewash with alcohol, and apply a bit of baking soda.

So far liking all the different approaches. First time I ever got it, it covered the whole back of my calf. Did I e er touch it? Heck no I already knew better. Didn't matter while calf was really bad. Took me two shots and an oral steroids to knock it. I honestly think I may see if my doctor can give me that steroid again. Didn't get a hint of it for a year, which is about how long she said it would last. Right now it is just a couple.of spots on my right arm.

We like a product called Zanphel. A small tube cost about $35, but you don't use much. My husband is allergic to it and if he knows he was in contact with some, he comes in and washes with it and then no poison ivy. We have used it as soon as it starts to appear and the poison ivy dissappears too. After the first day of the rash it doesn't work as well.

You might want to read about it. Once you have showered off it will no longer spread unless you come in contact with it again. You cannot spread it by scratching it once the all the oil has been washed off from you and your cloths. They had another home remedy called Burow's solution. I have never heard of it and I don't know if it's a prescription or not.

Here's some info

Thanks, I have read about it but the thing is it doesn't take long to get bigger fast, not to mention I live next to about 5 acres of woods. I do a lot of work on my property and sometimes don't know I have poison ivy right away. By then I have spread it pretty fast and far.

First, the blisters are not full of poison. that's nuts. the poison is the oil in the plant that gets on your skin. it's on the outside. wash well with soap and water, and dry. you can dry out the allergic reaction with a hair dryer. it makes the blistery part darker than the rest of your skin, but it works.

Good to know I will try the hair dryer part. I knew the blisters didn't spread it. When I say I often don't know right away it is before the whole weeping part happens. That means I have spread the oil the plant emits. Apparantly the oil don't have to sit long on me to make me break out. This time I was lucky and only have two small spots.

My husband is severely allergic to it. The best thing that he has found that helps him is to shower with lye soap. It gets all the poison off his skin and also dries up any blisters that he gets. My grandmother told him this remedy over 35 years ago and this has helped him so much.

there is a soap that you can get at the store and you wash with it immediatly if you think you have come in contact... It is very dangerous to have many outbreaks close together.
