My chickens got into some poison ivy yesterday. My son is very allergic. Do I need to bathe all the chickens or how long til my son can touch the chickens?

If he is super allergic I guess I would try to bathe them. Hope you don't have a huge flock! I did a little research about the active ingredient in poison ivy and it's lifespan and found this depressing tidbit:

    6. How long does urushiol stay active?
It is not unusual for urushiol to stay active on any surface, including dead plants, for one to five years. It does not evaporate like a water-based substance, so it can stay active on things like clothes and tools; if you come in contact with any such item, you will be exposed to urushiol oil all over again.

I think I'd go the better safe than sorry route. I know I seem to break out just thinking about it!! [IMG]

A follow up question would be: what are you planning to do to see to it that the chickens, or the dog, or the cat don't get into it again? I have plenty of poison ivy encroaching from the woods in many directions. It's a challenge for sure.

Lol... not ready for a goat. Hubby put up a fence today! The poison ivy was on the edge of the property.
