I have 4 chicks and one is a white crested black polish. The others are a silkie and 2 BO. I haven't noticed any problems to date. They are about 3-4 weeks old now and starting to feather out. I noticed that my polish started looking a little bald on top so I set up a camera to see if she is being pecked. Nothing in 48 hours of video. I'm attaching a pic of her the day I got them and then one from today. I have no idea what could be causing this. Help!

Chicks double in size each week, so the down on the head is covering an area twice as large as when you got them. That often will give the appearance of baldness. Another thing that contributes to the appearance of thin coverage is the new pin feathers emerging tend to push out the down.

This isn't to say that Polish aren't susceptible to feather picking. If you start to see than happening, you can give the perpetrator a peck on the back with your finger, and that often discourages them.

Thank you!
