I have 7 Polish chickens. They are five months old and have been laying for about a month. I was surprised that they started laying as young as they did. The thing is, their eggs are tiny, weighing just over one ounce.
I don’t get it. I have had Polish hens for years and they’ve all laid eggs larger than that—about twice as large.
Does anyone have a similar experience?
I’m hoping that when they are a little older they’ll produce normal sized eggs. I’m tired of these little bitty ones!
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.

Most pullets lay smaller eggs Initially that slowly enlarge over the first season. Generally you see bigger eggs in the second season and beyond. Smaller eggs initially help to make sure hens don't have problems laying them until things stretch out, and the system gets more regular.

I’m glad to hear that the eggs should increase in size over time. I still don’t understand why that didn’t happen with any of the flocks I’ve raised over the past 15 years!🤷🏼‍♀️🐣

I've always dealt with pullet eggs.
IKR?! Had to make up 'Pullets Dozens' to get carton weight for sale.
