Chirping
Our curious white leghorn named Pinky (due to the pink zip tie around her ankle so we can tell them apart) came up to my second deck door and deposited a poop with a round worm sticking out. Until this moment I have not found any worms. Still looking. Posted are some other pictures with some of the more abnormal looking poops but I understand with chickens that’s a large range.
It’s been wet and warm here in Brevard, NC!
Backstory:
I have a flock of 22 who free range. 11 of them are right around 1 yr old. The other 11 are from this springs clutch but should start laying soon.
Plus 12, 6 week old Cornish Rocks and 4 week old freedom Rangers.
Everyone mingles, my egg layers come steal the meat bird food on occasion. (I imagine it’s like me eating at McDonald’s lol)The Cornish don’t wander far from their coop. The freedom Rangers go a little further but not much. The coop set up is only to keep them safe if I’m not home and overnight.
Unless you would help pay for it (lol) we aren’t adding fencing to keep them separate. This is just what we are working with this time around with meat birds. I’d love to keep the adults away from the meat bird feed but it’s not happening this year.
I bought safeguard for goats from amazon and it has not arrived. This was before doing more research, it was just me panicking and getting something in the mail.
I have a few questions for all you knowledgeable folks out there.
I usually try and eat organic, will de worming them make our eggs no longer “organic” (I don’t sell eggs it’s just for my knowledge.) We only buy the organic feed for them. If no, what do organic chicken farmers de worm with then?
Should I test my dogs for worms? Can humans get them too? Maybe fecal samples all around? Lol
Can I deworm them 6 week old Cornish rocks ? Can I still harvest them for meat?
Can the young freedom Rangers be dewormed?
My head is spinning from all the information I truly appreciate any advice from you long time chicken keepers.
I don’t have to keep my birds “organic” I know a lot more goes into that, years of proving it for the label.
