Here is the chick again. 9.5 weeks old now. Can anyone tell for sure yet?
    Thanks again!

had to re-count weeks on the calendar! Guess I got a week behind somehow. 9 weeks, not 8

Well...being that dark it SHOULD be a pullet, BUT that pink of a comb at 8 weeks screams roo to me...so no, I can't tell you for sure yet...sorry.

Quote:Why do you say not pure? Just for curiosity sake. It's a hatchery bird, so they seldom look like they are "supposed" to.

    not pure barred rock

they were purchased from McMurray hatchery as barred rock pullets. This one has a slightly larger/pinker comb than the other one. It's also the biggest brat of the bunch. its tail feathers look different to me as well.

Pullet. I say that because it has the darker tone of a pullet, and the black "wash" down the front of the legs like a pullet. Some girls just develop their combs and wattles earlier. Also, the tail feathers are rounded, not pointy like a roo, and she has no hackles to speak of. If you want a BR roo, I have one I would give you...GRRRRR...I bought it a month or so ago on the word that it was a pullet but didn't yet know all the things I just told you about the pullets. Big surprise: my girl is a guy. I researched and found the prior mentioned info because i just thought my pullet might be a boy and I was right.

I think you got a male black sex link instead of a BR. They look very similar at hatch.
