I have a Rouen hen that has laid daily for the last two months till yesterday. She's sat on a clutch before so knows what she is doing, however she has been laying in one spot and sitting in another spot. I guess I'm not sure if she is broody and stopped laying or if she is super creative in hiding her eggs.

    Thanks

If she is not sitting on the eggs I don't think it would be classified as "broody". I would personally move the eggs to where she is sitting to see if she moves away from them as a test.

I just noticed she is panting. It's only 68 degrees. Should I be worried?

I would wonder if she is egg bound. That can be serious.

I would let her spend time floating in a tub of lukewarm water, no soap, and boost her calcium intake for a few days. She may be trying to pass a stuck egg.

Half a Tums, or a crushed 200 mg calcium citrate tablet in some treats like thawed peas is what I'd try, then cut back to half that amount for a few more days.

Ducks can get infections in their oviducts as well.

She typically lays monster eggs (90-105 grams) so I wouldn't be surprised if it was stuck. I have her floating right now in the tub and will get some tums. I couldn't feel anything in there but she always hangs low underneath.

Is she pumping her tail? I mean the tail goes from normal position downward, repeatedly.

Not as much up and down but side to side. I can see her flexing her rear muscles frequently.

    Could be egg trouble.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye on her over the next couple days.

No egg again today. I put her and her drake in a much smaller 10 so she isn't running around as much. I did notice she was trying to make a mess with the bedding I gave her.
