I live in a small rural farming type community where everyone seems to have a sense of humor.
On New Years Eve everyone gathers in the square at Historic Possum Snout (now called Tallapoosa) and wait for the lighted ball with Spencer, the official mascot, inside it, to descend slowly down the pole. This is the signal that the NEW YEAR has begun!!! There are live bands, and you have to go to the Hillbilly Cafe for a corndog, chili and some ribbon fries!
I mentioned this event last year in a thread about the chicken swap in Cedartown but I think some of you thought I was just pulling your leg. [IMG] Well, here you go, the actual write up in the Tallapoosa Journal for 2010! ENJOY!

And you have to get the souvenir boggin in camo pink or real tree with the embroridered cartoon likeness of spencer and the words "Possum Drop '10 Tallapoosa, GA" on it!
A funnel Cake and some real sweet tea is a must as well [IMG]
