We performed impacted crop surgery at home with the help of youtube and backyard chicken articles. We are now in the recovery stage and want to give our hen a proper diet. We have read many posts here and have not found our answer to a few questions about post surgery diet or food.

We live in a hot area of southern California and use sand for our bedding and ground cover which works great. We have the hen that is healing in a separate run that is adjoined to the main run. We are now feeding her yogurt, watermelon, mealworms, wet crumble mash, and bananas.

    1. For the separate run with the healing hen, can we use sand for the ground cover as we normally do?

    2. How many days after surgery do you recommend we re-introduce oyster shells back into her diet?

    3. How many days do you recommend before introducing solid foods in the healing hen's diet?

    Thank you for your help!
