Poultry semen - grad student in need!

Hello everyone,

This may be an unusual request, but I am in need of some avian semen for research. I am a PhD student at North Dakota State University and I study paternal effects in birds. Right now I need some semen samples from larger birds such as chickens, in order to improve and refine my technique for extracting useable DNA from bird semen, without compromising my current samples (which are from sparrows). Frozen is fine as I will not be inseminating hens with it. Could anyone help?

How would one go about collecting chicken semen? I think your best bet would be to look on Craigs list or your local feed store's bullitin board and get your own rooster. They are fairly easy to obtain as there are always extra roosters that no one wants. Good luck with your research.
