Poults and their crops?

I bought five poults (royal palm, a bronze and a bronze/palm mix), and while I see them eating, none of them have full crops. I've only ever raised one poult before, and that was three years ago, so I might be missing/forgetting something. Are they supposed to have palpable crops? They're about four days old today, and seem to be healthy... No yucky butts, bright eyes, very alert, etc, just no feed in their crops.
