Psalm 1:1-2 KJV
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. [2] But his delight is in the law of the Lord ; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Resisting peer pressure, standing against social norms, going against the tide if necessary, in order to be obedient to God's claims, is what these verses are about. We think about men like Daniel, willing to be thrown to the lions rather than comply with the king's order to treat him as a god for 30 days; his friends Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who resisted the same haughty king's demands that they bow to a golden idol or be thrown into a fiery furnace; Joseph, a lonely youth betrayed by his brothers and falsely accused by his employer's wife, who retained his integrity even in prison. We admire these examples of loyalty to God, but are we as faithful when we are tested? Peer pressure is a powerful thing, and it is often those closest and dearest to us who exert the most intense pressure. If the love of God constrains us above all, and His commandments guide us, we need not fear failing Him in the hour of temptation. He is our strength and our Guide; in Him is our victory.
