Premier 1 heat plate- WHAT do I put under it?

Hi! Setting up the brooder coop! So I put down newspaper for now, I have large shavings after the possibility of splayed legs is over. But WHAT should I put under the plate for them to lay on?

Newspaper is too slick. Anything slick is the cause of slipped tendon/splayed leg.
Replace that with paper towels.

After a couple days you can go to shavings.

OK! Can I put paper towels UNDER the plate?

ok, this group is a ROWDY bunch LOL! Anyway, they found the heat plate, cheeped annoyingly until I got it at the right level. Now they are all under there and have been SILENT for 15 minutes. I should take this as a sign that it's at the right height?

Yes. They should just be able to waddle under it. I caution that it needs to be raised every couple days.
