I have a barred rock I bought this summer...was told she was about a year old and laying. I have not gotten any eggs from her, better yet she sits on the other eggs pushes the bedding around then jumps out and sings the egg song. It's like she is claiming all the hard work and she hasn't done anything. Lol
    Is that normal?

Are you sure she isn't laying? If not, maybe she is actually younger and is just getting near time to start?

That would be really nice if she did start!

I had a barred rock that did the exact same thing. She would sit on the other eggs the cackle away like she laid. Turned out she had a secret nest in the garden after she laid her egg in that nest she'd go to the coop to sit on the other eggs. She didn't lay her first egg though for about 14 months now she goes broody all the time!
