Hi all I found a local guy who was going to sell BLRW chicks but is asking $5 for them. The price seems a bit steep to me but I dodn't know if it might be reasonable. Thank you for your help Crystal

I suppose it depends on what his breeding stock looks like.
Put it this way. BLRW eggs don't ship well for whatever reason. You could by 12 (and hope they throw a few extra in there) for $35 plus shipping, and risk getting only a couple, or no, chicks. My personal experience, as well as some other people on here, is that the eggs are fertile but very fragile.
I bought 12 eggs from someone here for $30 plus shipping. She was very nice to give me 16, or maybe it was 18. All were fertile, ONE hatched. That's an expensive chick.
The eggs were very well packaged, and the person I bought them from couldn't have done anything better.
I have also bought a BLRW hen from someone here for $20, which is a pretty reasonable price for that breed of hen who started laying a week later. She is also exceptional looking.
If I were you, I'd go for it.

$5 isn't much to ask for chicks. It all depends on the breed, quality, and location. We get $10 a chick here for even our bantam barred rock chicks.

    I'd say that's a very fair price.
