Many people get by with 20% protein. I however use a turkey starter with 28% protein. With the larger and faster growing birds such as Coturnix, the higher protein is very beneficial. I keep my flocks on 28% their whole life.

Brilliant thank you. I will try to aim for a higher protein percentage then.

Depends what you intend doing with them. If you just want to fatten them up for the table , then a higher protein feed will do that. But in the long term , too much protein is said to be hard on their organs.

Ok I want to keep only a few for egg laying. More as a hobby rather than fattening them up to eat. Would 20% be better then?

IMHO yes, I only up their protein in the dead of winter or when they are a little light on.

Hey, I don't know where you live, but Top Shaelf Feeds VI sells a 26 % quail crumble. I have seven for pets/eggs and they look beautifull :)
