These four where hatched September 24th I already know the sex of two. So I will only be showing the two I am debating. So far Ive gotten one male and one female. So fingers crossed for one more female.

The comb is large yes, but the mother is a white leghorn, a breed knowen for large combed females. So hoping it’s because of that. I really wanted a white easter-egger hen. I also mainly wanted to see if the white + blue (chance of green) would be lighter than normal.
Chick two now.

If you need better photos, I can get more tomorrow. This one is an buff orpington easter egger mix. I am happy with how his/her coloring came out. Hoping its a she so I can keep them.

I was hoping 1 would be a pullet. But thanks for confirming two. Until sattles and hackles form on one, I will still hope for it being a pullet. I know you probably are right but Ive had extremely bad luck with white leghorn X silver easter egger.. I’ve had one chick death one fast developing male. This one. And out of 19 eggs I tried to hatch only three where fertilized. And I no longer have the father.. so really hoping you’re wrong here.

I'd expect a male with Leghorn heritage to be obvious pretty early. I could ID a California White cross male at 2 weeks by his enormous comb.

In any case, the saddles should be visible within the next several weeks and you'll be able to know for sure. :)

Yeah, my other leghorn cross got his comb in at 4 weeks old. Im hoping its a pullet, theres no color at all on the comb. Its still a very light pink/yellow. So im hoping that its just a big combed female.

Is number 1 a white leghorn or a leghorn cross? If it’s a leghorn I’d say pullet as by 10 weeks the males usually have quite large red combs coming through
And thats why im unsure, if it was a male I was expecting the comb to be redder by now. And the wattles larger. Since leghorns are fast develpers, he/she is developing at the same pace as his/her mother.

I searched up for some pictures and I found this photo of somebody who had 2 white leghorns at 10 weeks old

The combs are already getting very large, and very red. They’re definitely roosters. So I would say that yours looks like a pullet. But It will become more definite for you over the next few weeks.🙂
