My pullets are about 2.5 - 3 months old. They had a blue jay set up a nest in their barn. Lately a few have been taking turns sitting on the baby blue jay while mama's away. Why? Is it normal for chickens to sit on strange birds babies?

I can't answer your question, but I do have a concern- parasites. Wild birds frequently (like always) carry interesting passengers. You might want to keep an eye out for that.

They must look silly nesting on such a small nest.[IMG]

Thanks for mentioning it though, I'll keep a closer eye out.
