Hi. I recently started incubating courtnix quail eggs and it is day 18. The egg is moving but seems to not be able to get out. I don't know of I should try and help the chick out or what?

Plz help.

The egg will wriggle as the chick gets into the right position to hatch - it's not ready to hatch quite yet. Just leave it be and make sure you humidity is nice and high.

The chick has to internally pip first, then about 12-24 hours later it will externally pip. It can take up to 24 hours for it to progress to unzipping which should happen pretty fast. Lots is happening in that time including the yolk being absorbed completely so it's an important process.

Be patient and try not to worry. I know it's difficult not to hover, believe me! But it usually goes without a hitch. Only step in to help if the chick has externally pipped but not progressed for longer than 24 hours. Stepping in too quickly will cause the chick's death. :hugs
