Earlier I noticed that one of my coturnix quails has a swollen eye. I separated her from the others, and I'm not sure where to go from here. Here is some helpful info: I have her and her buddies (other female coturnix, 1 male and 1 female buttons, one unknown gender button) placed in a temporary cage. I also have my kitten housed in the same room, and the bars are set pretty far apart from one another... Pretty risky but my parents said they were the ones to make the decision[IMG] My best guess is that the kitty reached inside and gave poor Alpha a good swat to the face, and that worries me. There are no conflicts between the quail, only the male button is a newbie the rest were raised together. When feathers go missing on the buttons they grow back beautifully, so I am not concerned about small quarrels. Does she need a vet? Or just special care? Culling is not an option in my book, love them too dearly. I know a pic would help, but based on the info given there can't be many possible causes to come up with. Thanks in advance for all help (asap please[IMG])

Could someone at least tell me if it's okay to put her back with the others? She's very stressed right now being alone

I think it would be ok to put her with the others, just watch them for a bit to make sure she doesn't get picked on

Can't really see anything besides severe swelling and tearing (like a sad tear, not a rip)

With her family now. Just looks very sleepy, but she seems okay. I hope it's not serious.

Can someone help me to move this to the emergency forum? Not sure how to do that... or should I just create a new thread under that forum?

I just want to chime in to say that I was about to post a similar post about one quail with a bad eye, suddenly. I don't know what the solution is, but I do know that when my one quail looked "sleepy" that was not an accurate interpretation. "Sleepy" really meant "weak and shutting down." I soon realized that quail wasn't eating or drinking. I tried to let it improve on its own, but it didn't. So I hand-fed it with a small spoon. After several feedings like this, the quail perked up. But I'm pretty sure that if I'd just let it get "sleepier" then it wasn't going to make it. So keep a watchful eye on the bird's overall wellbeing. The eye may or may not be OK. But the bird could go into shock or get really stressed. And that may be more dangerous--but I'm a newbie, so I'm just telling you what I've found so far!
