    Hello,

I'm looking for some advice as a newish quail owner. My quails are bout 6 months old now but one of them over this last week has been laying down a lot. She seems quite bright but just seems quite reluctant to do much other than lay down. I've checked her legs and vent and all seem ok. I'll take her to the vets if it persists but wanted to find out what people thought it could be (there are probably a million things it could be and I know it's hard to say without seeing, just some general advice would be good).

    Thanks in advance :D

Is it a male or a female?

There is a bacterial disease that occurs when your pen is dirty. I can't remember the name, but when this happens, quails just laying down and don't eat anything. They only drink water.. Lot of water... Color of poop will change to shaded black or sometimes dark brown. If you notice a change in the color of poop its better to take her to your vet as soon as possible as this can spread from one bird to another immediately...

Thank you. Her poo colour is normal but a bit froothy. I just spoke to the vet who thought it could be egg bound so suggested to bring her in, stick her in a humid room in a dark box and see if she is any better by tomorrow. So I've done that for the time being and keeping my fingers crossed. She seems 100% with it just not that able so I have hopes that she isn't just going to pop her cloggs overnight.

Did you ever remember the name of the infection? Do they get all floppy? I had one lay down and she couldn't walk and she died but everyone else is fine! I don't know much about quail illnesses so I'm trying to learn as much as I can. My bird coulda just bonked.
