Oh boy, here I go again. I really thought this was a Quail... So did the Humane Society and Project Wildlife.. Now that I got a picture of her I am starting to doubt the Quail theory and starting to think Bantam...

Thanks for the reply! She doesn't have any kind of head ornament so maybe she really is a quail!

Very sweet though for a quail.

Not all quail have the crest on top. Bobs males will have a little bit of feathers sticking up, but nothing like the mountain quail.

I am 100% sure that it is a coturnix (japanese) quail, we have some in the brooder right now. It looks like a female. Coturnix are known for laying tons of eggs.

flyingmonkeypoop is right. Here is some information. I have a few of these myself. They are very fun, and it looks like you have a female. If you can, try to get another one for company.

[IMG] When I said not head ornament, I was thinking that chickens at that size sometimes have the start of the comb. Some quail have the feather sticking up, my bobwhites have flat head feathers.

A local quail person saw the picture and says "Blue Breasted Quail" which is a Coturnix. He has a buddy for her too! I'll pick up her new girlfriend in the next few days.

    Thanks for the help!!!
