Question about BP laying

Hi!
Just curious, what age and weight do buff laced polish need to be to lay eggs? Mine is about 20 weeks and weighed 1,106 grams on Friday.
Hi there. :frow

Onset of laying will depend on hormonal maturity more than age or weight of the individual. In the same breed, hatched on the same day.. I've had them start as far as 4 weeks apart.. and RARELY when someone says they "should".

As stated light does influence this laying hormone... so birds maturing this time of year will often lay later than if they hatched earlier in the year. Some folks choose to influence this with artificial lighting, as light will continue decreasing daily until December 21st! I go the natural route, but it's a personal choice.. chickens are hatched with every egg they will ever lay follicle already on board.. laying later equals larger size eggs from the beginning and possibly laying later into life as well.

First year pullets may still come into lay.. just not as early or as frequent as I believe it tales at least 14 hours of daylight.

Comb color and other behavior can indicate how close laying might be getting. The ladies usually red up a good month before eggs come. And as they get real close.. like days, they *may* become mouthy, chatty, restless.
