We got 2 Buff Orpington day old chicks and I have a question about one of them. She had feathered legs! The other one has smooth legs and is much larger. They are 4 weeks old now and the feathered leg chick still has a LOT of her down with just a few feathers. The others...6 in all...have almost all of their feathers with very little down and are just about twice the size.

We got them from a local feed store that has them shipped every week. Is it possible that it's not a Buff or is that simply a variation of the breed?

    Thanks!

BOs have white or pinkish clean legs no feathering...It could be a Buff Cochin too...

Fuzzy pic but looks like a Light Brahma...they are yellow when hatched and start whiting up with black lace neck, wing and tail feathers...

I raise BO and thats not an orgington chick, but unless breeding the difference allow the personality of the birds to really shine. It will make a great bird never the less.

Oh, she's a great chick! She's very friendly and even at 4 weeks will jump onto your hand. I really think she's a Buff Cochin after looking it up. The chick photo of the BC is EXACTLY what she looked liked when we got her. Time will tell for sure.........
