Question about dinner tonight.. :) Please help.

    I know this is stupid but I am going to make beed stew for dinner tonight while my moms gone. What do u do with the beef. Cook it b4 u put it in or put it in raw? thanks in advance

    sear it in a frying pan then cook it a little (brown it) in a little water

    the important thing so your beef gets tender not tough is:

    DO NOT LET IT BOIL HARD!

    ONLY simmer it (bubbles breaking the surface but not having the surface roiling strongly - a tiny person in a tiny heatproof rowboat should be in absolutely no danger).

    It will tak 1-3 hrs of simmering (depending on how meat is cut up, and what part of the cow you're using) to become tender - check pperiodically, at which time you can also adjust heat as needed to keep that simmer going.

    I bread it/ roll it in flour with salt&pepper, then brown it, before putting it in "stew" pot
