I was told that , with chickens any way, if you start them on Layer feed too soon, they will NOT lay eggs. I was wondering if this is also true with ducks? I have a Pekin that is 2 months old and has been eating layer for almost a month now. I'm assuming that it's a girl because none of the tail feathers have started to curl and it's pretty mouthy....

I'm not too worried about her not laying eggs but I want to make sure that this will not cause any health problems because she can't lay.

Thanks

Everything that I have read indicates if you feed them lay pellets too soon, it could possibly cause kidney damage because there is too much calcium in the layer feed. Their bodies are not ready for eggs just yet. If their bodies are not ready to lay eggs, then they won't.
