Question about Hens raising poults.

I saw my 2 week old poult fly onto the brim of the adult waterer. He then jumped in. I, nervously ran to him and he quickly jumped out, not even wet. They are being raised by my hen, so is she giving them oils to water-proof them? What all does my hen give the poults to benefit them?

Isn't that the worst feeling when you see the poult head straight for the water?!?! I had a 5 gallon bucket full of water uncovered in the coop for under a minute, two poults straight in. Mine are also hen raised and seemed fairly dry considering. You have a good question though and I would be interested in some in depth answers.
