Question about Silkie head shapes

I did a search but came up with nothing.
How come some of my Silkie chicks have a huge noggin and the others do not? Most of them have what I think of as a normal head shape but I've got two so far that have a domed head. I thought I had found a link some time ago explaining this but I can't find it.

It's found in Polish and other crested breeds, too. I read in a chicken book that the dome is caused by a cerebral hernia!?! It sure doesn't sound good, but it seems to be a perfectly normal part of some breeds.

Some people say the bigger the dome, the better the crest will look eventually. It doesn't correlate with the number and size of feathers, though.
