I tried making my own apple cider vinegar. It has been setting for about a month. For awhile it smelled like alcohol, which I expected, but now it smells sort of like acetone. Is this a normal stage?

The recipe I have says it takes about 2 months.

I'm trying a batch right now--it's been sitting about a week. Good luck with yours

I make red wine vinegar from the nasty red wine people give me for gifts. Are you using the right type of mother?
