Question of the Day - Sunday, November 9th, 2025

My Aunt did Ancestry, so we have a bit of info on Mom's side. I keep forgetting to ask her for the info.

My Dad and I did it the hard way and chased our history back through records. Dad's been doing it for probably 30 years now. We have his side back to the 1450's in England. It's hard to get much older than that due to poorly preserved records, fires, and just general data loss. I'm the 13th generation of my family in an unbroken line to live in what's now the US.

Hubby and I did Ancestry a couple years ago. He wanted to trace his family back as far as he could. His mother had traced some of her family back to the 1500s the old fashioned way, with research in the Pittsburgh library, among other places.

A nephew first cousin of mine traced my fathers family into the early 17th century. They didn’t move around very far. The oldest family members where craftsmen and lived just 20 km from where my nephew and I were born on the other side of the border with Belgium. In those days there was no border between Belgium and the Netherlands.

Edited mistake. We use the same word (neef) for both nephew and cousin.

My moms roots are from the Middle East
Dads roots are from Far east.

That may answer some of my liking of certain music styles. :idunno

So far nobody has purchased my info, and tried to take advantage of me. Not sure what they can do with it.
I do enjoy watching Finding Your Roots.
