While I am perfectly capable of reading a map, I am also easily turned around. Especially in urban areas. I just don't do well in a crush of people and buildings. Funny story with this: I took a work trip to St. Louis once with another coworker. I made sure to tell him that I am notorious for getting turned around (especially in packed airports) and to make sure not to leave me behind. What does he do though...left me behind
First thing I do, find a person who is traveling to the same job site. Second thing we both do...get on the wrong bus. No big deal, just went back to the airport. We found our group and my coworker teased me about going to the wrong place. Locked eyes with him and asked him what I told him before we got on the plane.
You would think he learned. Finished training and headed back home. Pretty certain he sat behind me. We were supposed to catch a ride home with a friend. He somehow jetted off the plane without me, did not wait near the doors, and left the baggage claim before I got there. So now I can't find the rideshare, have no phone battery, and am stressing because I am causing our ride to have to wait. I have no trust in him anymore. No worries though, finally found them, chewed him out and made it home.
