My chicks are supposedly 2 weeks old yesterday, but I am thinking they are older. Most of them already of wing feathers and staring on the other feathers. (except one, the rooster, who is way behind.) Here are some pictures-

Barred Rock pullet

Buff Orpington- rooster

White Leghorn- Pullet

EE- Pullet

all of them together.

Compare picture- White Leghorn far, BO roo near.

the rooster is so small!

Do you think they are older then 2 weeks, based on feathering/size? The rooster is holding his own, eating/drinking etc. despite his smaller size.

They are probably 2 weeks, they look like to me 2 weeks, and even my four 1 week olds have more feathers then I feel they should have at that age too. They grow up fast.

Your leghorns are the same age as mine and mine also have alot of wing feathers already. I was wondering the same thing. They are so big already and the feathers are filling in nicely. They can already fly quite high, which is why they've been transferred to my giant dog crate and out of their bin.

I'm super new to raising chicks, so pardon me if this is a silly question, but how do you know your roo is in fact a roo? I ask because to me he looks like any other chick LOL I've been wondering myself how I could tell if my chicks were truly female.

Nope, not a silly question. :p I am not an expert by any means, but I know some breeds of chicks are different colors. Others, professionals know how to tell. That's all I know.

I also have a Buff Orpington, a White Leghorn and an Easter Egger and they were 3 weeks yesterday. Mine seem a little bigger than yours so I would guess they are indeed 2 weeks. Here are a few pics to compare.

I think they look like they are about 2 weeks. I have BO's that are 2 weeks tomorrow and they are feathing about the same. Leghorns feather and grow much faster! Here is a pic of one of my Buffs today.
