Question re: canning peppers

I'm going to be making the pickled peppers in the Ball Blue book, but it doesn't say if the stems need to be removed or not. They need to be slit twice and soaked in salt water, but that's the only prep mentioned.
 
I remove the stems. I slice them anyway. If time is too short for me,, I cut off tops, slice length-wise and shove them in the jar. I take the top off because dirt can get trapped between the cap and the pepper. Good luck!
BTW, I don't use the soaking overnight recipe. God didn't give me that much time.
