I saw a bunch of polish and polish bantams in a cage today at a 4H fair and I couldn't tell them apart what is the difference between them? What is the average height for Polish chickens and Polish bantams? The ones I saw were small and I wasn't sure if that was there normal size or if they were just young.

As far as I know, the difference is the eggs they lay. Or the eggs they come from. Some lay bantam eggs and some lay standard eggs

I'm not sure about height but bantams should be no more than 2 lbs, while the LF are supposed to be about 6.

Thanks, so basically polish bantams are smaller versions of the normal polish chickens? I don't know much about chickens yet, I only have button quail but I have always loved the Polish so I am trying to learn more about them.

Bantams are indeed, smaller versions of their breeds... Bantam Polish, Bantam Cochin, whatever. Nothing at all to do with egg size. There are true bantams which do not have large fowl counterparts, too, such as Sebrights.

I'm betting that the LF Polish were probably younger than the bantams. from all of the ones I have seen, the LF are considerably bigger. I'm not sure of height, but I think bantams are supposed to be under 2lbs and LF are around 5 or 6. Both standard and bantam have the same slimmer body as compared to say a heavy laying, meat, or dual purpose bird. Their eggs are small, but not as small as quail. I will tell you...they can be noisy...mine isn't...but some say they are on the loud size AND they also can be flighty. They WILL roost in trees and fly up high. This came as a surprise to me the first time, as I am used to silkies...lol. Good luck!
