I have a question. I commissioned with an individual I have known for years to create a wall hanging for me. I realize the material would be difficult to come by. My specifics were only about color and product not how to put it together, nor a specific style. When I asked her about how much it would be she told me she made her quilts as gifts. Would it be rude if I offered her money anyway? and How much is enough for the time and effort she has put in to making this for me? This job was commissioned in July. I realize she has not worked the entire time on my project but I am sure it took some time to gather the material I wanted. I have seen the 4"x4' wall hanging pieced together and am sure I will be excited with the finished project. Any ideas?

say, i know i cant pay you for such a beautiful piece of art but can i at least compensate you for your materials? then take it for what it is, a gracious act of her time

I don't think it would be rude to offer. If she declines maybe you can think of something nice to do for her in return. She sounds very sweet and kinda like the type of person who is always doing things for others- so maybe something special just for her like a spa gift certificate, or gift basket, or find out if she collects anything special.

    I agree..
I know when I make things for people I hate to put a price on it .. so I try to gift them to the recipient.. when people ask me what they owe me I usually tell them to just pass along the kindness to someone else.. she may feel the same way
