I felt like starting a rabbit chat thread... I know quite a few rabbit raisers on here, and I want to get to know more of you!

I have 7 rabbits right now, A NZ breeding pair, a ND breeding pair, a FG doe, a mutt, and a red satin :) My ND doe is currently pregnant with her first litter, and my Red satin was just bred to have her 2nd litter.

Chat away! Pet, meat or show rabbit peeps, feel free to chime in! All BYC rules apply!

Hey @TroyerGal ! I currently have 5 rabbits(two broken patterned NZ does, two steel Dutch does, and one steel Dutch buck). I will hopefully have many litters next spring/summer! The Dutch are pedigreed purebreds, kept for show, and the NZs are my first rabbits, bought for pets. Good luck with your ND doe!

Hi!!! Do you breed for meat? Can you post bunny pics? I really like Dutch rabbits... I heard they're hard to get perfect coloring when breeding?

They are just show rabbits. Dutch can be used for meat, but if i just wanted meat, i would most likely go with NZs. Dutch are just a little bit on the small size, but i have heard that they dress out well. They are VERY hard to get the right markings with. But they make up for that with temperament and the excitement of getting a couple well-marked kits. I have steels, but there are also tortoiseshell, black, blue, and harlequin.

Welcome to the wild world of raising rabbits! I raise NZ, Silver Fox, American Chinchilla, and crosses.

If I understand it correctly, the TAMUK rabbits are a line of New Zealands developed for meat characteristics, right? What are some of the differences from "standard" NZs? I know they can be bred at 4 1/2 months, which is earlier than I would start breeding my NZs.

I really don't know a bunch about them . I have only had them about 2 months . I do know they are very heat tolerance.and grow fast . I need that . I'm in south Texas . These rabbits were a composite from wild rabbits , nz and altec. And I think one other breed . The breeder I got them from told me the complete history. I forgot most of what he told me .
