I need help identifying this girl I got. She was purchased by someone for easter family photos and given away for free afterward. Needless to say I'm the lucky new owner. However, no information. I'm not sure what it is or how old it even is. Just that when I sexed it, fairly certain it is a girl based on what a breeder showed me to look for on my two New Zealand whites I also recently got. Only thing is she seems more apparently female(seems clearer than the three week old New Zealands) so she might be about 4 or 5 weeks I think? She seems to be a baby to me. I just wish I knew if she were going to get much bigger and just how much. I should add, the people got her from a pet shop and the pet shop didn't tell them much beyond keeping it alive.

Looks to be some sort of Lop, hard to say what kind, the pet store could be almost anything from Breeder culls to mixed breeds!

How much does she weigh? She looks so huge in that first pic! If its some sort of Holland it'll probably finish out at 3-4, a Mini Lop is a lot bigger, but it doesn't *really* look like a Mini Lop.

I've seen stuff at the auctions that were Lop or Lionhead crossbreeds that were just HUGE.

And what the heck is wrong with people today, they got a rabbit to take pictures with???

Animals are not disposable. Seems like we have two extremes, you know? The animal rights nuts in one corner, and the people who don't give a hoot about them. Sad really, and kudos to you for taking it!

You know its going to be too small to use with your NZ, right?

I will exert extreme self control and not comment on the fact that someone apparently sold you three-week-old NZ's.

The pet shops around here buy bunnies at 5 - 6 weeks of age. In some areas, it is illegal for a pet shop to get them at less than 8 weeks, your little chestnut doesn't look any older than that. The fact that she survived being transferred to a pet shop, then to the first owner, then to you, makes me think that she was most likely at least 6 weeks when her ordeal began.

Obviously, just how much bigger she will get depends on which breed(s) she is. Ears that short (and that much ear control) suggest Holland Lop, which means an adult weight of 3 - 4 pounds. Mini Lops run in the 5 - 6 pound range. The French and English Lops get up over 9 pounds, but nothing about her indicates anything in that size range (besides, English have such phenomenal ears, you couldn't miss 'em from across a room!) She might be a lop cross, but once again, her ears don't look very long. I think she'll finish up weighing in at 6 pounds or less.

I was a bit disappointed about that too. They also used three pullet RIR chicks that I took in, but they are going off to another farm today. I didn't have room for them in my own flock and I was going to be getting rabbits anyway. And I know, that one is likely going to be just a pet. The two NZ's I mentioned are going to be a breeding pair much muuuuch later.
The only reason I have any concern over how big it'll get is because I'm tempted to try and let it free-roam but not if it stays this small. I'd never find it and it'd get into too much trouble. The dog has no problem with them either which is a huge plus. Farrah(my dog) seems to lack any prey drive for anything bigger than cockroaches.

She used to even try and snuggle my chickens when they were chicks. Much to the dismay of said chicks.

If she tried that now she'd get pecked full of holes.

Buuut, this lop cross weighs about 409 g. She is almost exactly the same size as the NZ buck is right now and the doe is much muuuch bigger than the buck. I can tell them apart by a glance. I think the female came from a litter that was born a week before the bucks was.

she looks like a mini lop, here's a pic of my adult doe bugle, she's the agouti in the middle the REW is her son to a british giant

Not surprised that you NZW doe wouldn't hold still! I had a pair when I was 12, and we had 2 litters with them. My NZW buck was super-friendly and easy to handle, but the doe only liked ME--probably because I fed and took care of her.

Hugs to you, Rin, for taking this bunny in!

People just DON'T understand that rabbits need to be properly cared for and trained, just like dogs and cats. AND, it's just heartless to treat these animals like kleenex. What are you gonna name her/him?

Looks like a mini lop and about 8 or 9 weeks old. I think the color is Chestnut Agouti, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

My lops are very sweet and friendly and my NZWs are maniacs.
