Will standard 1" "chicken wire" mesh keep out raccoons, assuming secured properly?

NOPE! The only thing that doesn't get through chicken wire are chickens. Seriously. Dogs, racoons, coyotes will go through chicken wire like a screen door. Use a welded wire like hardware cloth which has smaller openings so raccoons can't pull chicken parts through.

Chicken wire is absolutely good for nothing but keeping chickens in. I've seen my dogs actually shred it into strands going after nothing more exciting than an air conditioner cover they wanted to play with.
    Raccoons are immensely strong.
