Hi there.
We have a flock of 13 chickens and we have been under the assumption that because we live on farm property that all is fine and legal.

Our girls are kept for eggs but also as our little pets. We love them and so do our children.

We spent some time looking up laws today, out of curiosity, after someone mentioned something to us about keeping chickens/the law.

Anyhow - we've only found confusing information and we're hoping that someone on here who knows anything about the keeping chicken laws in Ridgeville, Ontario could give us some insight. (Close by Fonthill, Fenwick, Welland)

Our landlord's son gave us a funny vibe today when he saw the girls and now we are worried that we've done something wrong.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Ontario laws vary from area to area, but if you're rural and under 300 birds (i think thats the right number) you're fine.
Now, if you don't own your property that's probably another issue entirely.

Thanks! Our landlords, who also live on the property, are totally on board with the girls being here - and even told ha if we have any issues to say that we're keeping them for them :)
Turns out our area is good because it is rural, like you said!

We're actually going to be moving to a place not far from there in September :) (lincoln area, in a rural property near beamsville.) We don't have any birds yet but are hoping to get some next spring. We'll concentrate on building a good coop this autumn. :)
