My 9wk old Rhode Island Red babies have a sandbox more or less for a run. I live in sunny Florida, and my yard is some version sand dirt. Even here central Florida it's a sand pit, and I'm not complaining I'm just saying. Since my Rhode Island Red babies were big enough to do some real scratching they dust bath all the time. I'm watching them right now, and they are rolling in that sand.

I'm also in Central Florida and our land used to be a citrus grove. Think sugar sand! But, there are weeds for them to eat and they do love to bathe in it. I'm just worried about the summer heat for them. They have already had a few days this year that they looked like they were heat stressed and the worst of it hasn't even arrived yet.
