I acquired a male gambel quail and a female valley quail. I was curious if they could mate. I joined byc for some advice for now and in the future.[IMG]

Welcome to BYC [IMG] That is a beautiful quail! I'm afraid I'm not a quail expert, so I can't answer your question, but if you ask down in the Quail section, the members there will be happy to help you:

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I'm a chicken person and don't know much about quail (never had any), but they sure are cute little birds. Definitely post your question on the Quail link that sumi left you and take advantage of our quail experts there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your quail.

I don't know much about Quail, so I can't answer your question. I would recommend posting in the Quail section of the forums. Experienced quail owners there should be able to help.[IMG]

    Cute birds!

Hello there and welcome to BYC! [IMG]

Very pretty quail! They will probably not do the act of mating and if they do, the hen most likely will not lay fertile eggs from this male. There is a protective mechanism in quail to protect the species so they can't interbreed.

Enjoy your birds and we do welcome you to our flock!

Welcome to BYC. Never realized quail could be so beautiful. People on the quail threads should be able to answer your questions. Sorry I cannot.
