    Hi all,
I'm new to the forum. Today I picked up 6 lavender silkie chicks that are 5-6 weeks old. They are very active, and eating well. Are there any special considerations for this breed? I have a white silkie rooster that's a few months old, and just starting to crow. I've noticed they are very friendly, with a great disposition. My daughter carries him around like a puppy! The lady I bought the chicks from says that 2 are roosters, and 4 are hens, how do I tell?
    Thanks,
    Raymond

Silkies are notoriously difficult to sex. It can often take months. There is a reason for the saying you won't know until it crows or lays an egg.

I believe it! I can tell by the tail feathers on most breeds, but. Silkies are different. The man I bought my first silkie from told me it was a rooster. It was around four months old.
