OK, not really. But the hens have plucked every last feather out of the poor guy's tail. For a long time he had just ONE, which was probably even funnier.

Will they grow back soon, or does he have to wait until his first molt? Poor guy is worried about it.

I've got a couple of young BLRW roos that the older hens have pulled all their tail feathers out just like that. I hope they don't swear off women forever because of it!!

my 2 lower rir cockerals only have 2 long tail feathers each. I was wondering if they were being pulled out but Ive never seen it. Is it possible they are doing it at night when they roost?

My hens sneak up on them whenever they get the chance. I saw one hen go up to one of them today and give him a peck on the rear even tho he's got no tail feathers left to pull out.

Quote:Is he? I wasn't at all impressed with him when he was younger, but then after the fox attack, there were only two surviving roos, and this is the one who "stepped up" as far as looking after the flock (we barbecued the other one last week).

Skee Lo is about 16 weeks old now, so I guess he has time to make something of himself. [IMG]

It takes over a year old or longer to see how well a nice roo will develop. I think yours is going to be very handsome.

Quote:Time will tell! I'd give anything to be close enough to pick up some of your blue boys. Darn geography. Grrrr.
