Here, there, and everywhere...
Since I started raising chickens last year I have always bought and used Dumor brand grain from TSC. I thought it was a good feed and had no complaints about it.
I have 3 Buff Orpingtons, 1 black Sumatra, and a white Silkie all of laying age and about 1 year 4 months old. Oh and my sons Modern game show chicken who was hatched Oct. 08.
I have lots of other birds but those are just the ones who can lay right now.
That being said, we were using 100 pounds of Dumor Layer 16% crumbles per week for all the chickens/ducks/others.
I was getting at best 1, ONE egg per day. I thought my older girls from last year were just on their way out of production and I was making plans to cull them or sell them for pets or whatnot.
Then we ran out of grain and on a whim went to a closer-to-us-than-TSC general store for emergency grain who only sells Blue Seal poultry feed.
We brought the bag home and opened it up and you could see the quality difference as soon as you opened the bag. The grain is a gorgeous corn color, even throughout, very fine crumble, has a pleasant odor and every piece is uniform in texture, color, content.
For two weeks we've been feeding the Blue Seal Egg Maker and suddenly I am getting 4-5 eggs per day and the yolks are DEEP orange in color.
Yes, the grain itself is more expensive ($1.00 more per bag about) but if I am going to get quadruple the amount of eggs I was with Dumor then I will gladly buy the better grain!

In front of me I have the ingredient listings from both brands. I don't know what the difference is that making them all start laying but this stuff is amazing. My sons modern game hen hasn't laid in about 3 months and suddenly she's given me an egg every day for the last three days!
Maybe it's not the grain, maybe it's the weather, I don't know, but I think it's the grain!
