I followed the chicken toys thread and checked out the "forage cakes" at Murray McMurray. They look like the suet cakes for birds one sees at the farm store.

Q: Is suet okay for chickens? How about using peanut butter instead?

I make homemade Suet for my chickens occasionally. They love it.

I don't have the measurements for anything because I just kind of throw it together.

This is what I use.

Crisco grease
Peanut Butter
Oatmeal
Corn meal
Bird Seed or Chick Starter
Fresh fruit
And whatever else I have laying around that I think they will eat.

I freeze it then throw it out to them when I want to give them a treat. It is gone in a matter of minutes.

Take care,

Tami

here too, they love homemade stuff like that. i think it's all the fat. chickens can pretty much eat anything.

I posted a suet recipe for wild birds in the recipe section. Not sure if it would be good for chickens with all that grease??? anyone know?
