re silkies

What are some of the reasons that silkie people can't sex their silkies for months? Mine is 7 months old, has a comb, hackles, feathery tail etc. Has a single comb. He used to crow. Now the male silkie mounts him, and today he made himself a nest. He has also lost most of the spikes and his poof is smoother. Can this all fool a person?

I am having the same problem, I have 4 silkies and I have no idea! Just when I think I have some idea

Had that problem with my partridge silkie thought it was a male(no crowing though) until my big cochin decided to try to mount it...Now my other two boys are chasing her skirt.
