You don't need to put anything under the shavings. You could do some pdz or de if you wanted, but there is no need to do soWood with linoleum on top
I am listening, getting my new baby chicks on Tuesday. What should I put, if anything, under the pine shavings in their plastic brooder box?You don't need to put anything under the shavings. You could do some pdz or de if you wanted, but there is no need to do so

Wood with linoleum on top. My coop is made entirely of wood with asphalt roof. It is raised on posts. Therefore the floor is wood and previous owner put linoleum on top. I don’t know why.
I have the same type of coop. It's a "stick built" 8 x 10 foot shed with a wood floor covered in a sheet of linoleum on top. It works well because poop and water do not permeate the floor. I bought a plastic snow shovel ($5) for removing the dirty wood chips and it's great! I can shovel out the coop in 15 minutes now. So just throw your bedding material on the floor. It should cover the floor, like 3 inches or so, as you don't want poop to hit the actual floor and stick. Good luck with your chickens!Wood with linoleum on top.
