Red Comet or Buff Orpington? Make or Female?

This is Ruby. She's 9 weeks old. We hatched her along with 3 others from a combo egg batch from Meyer's Hatchery for my son's class. Is she a she? We hope so!

Agreed. Red Sex-Links (commercially called Red Comets) would have white feathers along with the red. Buff Orpingtons are more buff than red. It could be a Production Red, as @junebuggena mentioned, or perhaps a hatchery-quality Rhode Island Red (which is almost the same as Production Red, just "purer" due to breeding).

Red comet is a type of red sexlink. They are red with white in the tail. Cherry Eggers are fancy name that some hatcheries have given to Production Reds.

@junebuggena is right. Red Comet is a commercial name for Red Sex-Links, which are most red with white in the tail. They are a cross between a red gene cock and a silver gene hen (hatcheries usually use Rhode Island Red cock and Delaware hen) to produce sex-linked chicks. They are also called Cinnamon Queens, Golden Comets, ISA Browns, Gold Sex-Links, Red Stars, Gold Stars, etc. Production Reds (also called "Cherry Eggers") are usually a cross between a Rhode Island Red and New Hampshire.
